The East Village Forum provides an organized forum of panelists made up of artists, critics, curators, and art historians (including Jason Edward Kaufman, Richard Vine, and Joan Waltemath) to discuss relevant issues, related to various aspects of global art and culture. The theme of the forum will focus on the interaction between art and the media. Two controversial terms relevant to this discussion are “News” and “New in Art”. For the term “News” the panel will discuss how political news and the current economic situation have influenced artists’ works. However, the panel will look more in depth into the term “New” in art through questioning its relevance and as the concept of “new” is more complex within the current art world.
